Vanitas 1990s

The Vanitas is a 3D project where I teamed up with other students in one of my classes at university.

We first had to decide a theme for the Vanitas, so we went for a scene representing the possessions of a drug-using musician of the 1990s.

What I did :

The renders, the lightning, the music sheets and the posters
Textures for the following assets : table, wall, ashtray, bottles, chain with cross, vinyl and frame, skull, sunglasses and watch
Improved the layout, corrected some textures and models

Concept

Based on the definition as well pictures and paintings of vanitas online, we decided to create a scene inspired by the 1990s, a time not so long ago, yet still gone, which also allowed us to give it a more modern twist compared to traditional vanitas. We included a skull and drugs to symbolize death. Most of the objects are dirty or broken like the glasses, guitar strings or crumpled sheets, to represent the passage of time.

Final Thoughts

Overall I am very happy with the end result of this project. I spent a lot of time working on the lightning and did many tests with different ambiences. Having a big team on this project allowed many ideas and assets to be made.
